Waterlogging Stress Physiology in Barley
نویسندگان
چکیده
Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) is the most susceptible cereal species to excess moisture stress. Waterlogging-induced hypoxia causes major morphological, physiological, and metabolic changes, some of which are regulated by action plant growth regulators signal molecules including nitric oxide. Recent studies have evidenced participation phytoglobins in attenuating hypoxic stress during conditions excessive through their ability scavenge oxide influence synthesis response regulators. This review will highlight cellular changes linked responses waterlogging with emphasis on phytoglobins.

Barley responses to combined waterlogging and salinity stress: separating effects of oxygen deprivation and elemental toxicity
Salinity and waterlogging are two major factors affecting crop production around the world and often occur together (e.g., salt brought to the surface by rising water tables). While the physiological and molecular mechanisms of plant responses to each of these environmental constraints are studied in detail, the mechanisms underlying plant tolerance to their combined stress are much less unders...
متن کاملPhysiological responses to water stress and waterlogging in Nothofagus species.
Gas exchange and water relations were investigated in Nothofagus solandri var. cliffortioides (Hook. f.) Poole (mountain beech) and Nothofagus menziesii (Hook. f.) Oerst (silver beech) seedlings in response to water stress and waterlogging. At soil matric potentials (Psi(soil)) above -0.005 MPa, N. solandri had significantly higher photosynthetic rates (A), and stomatal and residual conductance...
متن کاملTolerant and Susceptible Sesame Genotypes Reveal Waterlogging Stress Response Patterns
Waterlogging is a common adverse environmental condition that limits plant growth. Sesame (Sesamum indicum) is considered a drought-tolerant oil crop but is typically susceptible to harmful effects from waterlogging. The present study used comparative analysis to explore the waterlogging stress response associated with two sesame genotypes. The RNA-seq dataset generated during a time course of ...
متن کاملWaterlogging Tolerance
More than one third of the world’s irrigated areas suffer occasional or more frequent waterlogging (Donmann and Houston, 1967). Waterlogging has been shown to limit wheat yields in many regions of the world; an area estimated at 10 million ha is waterlogged each year in developing countries (Sayre et al., 1994). Waterlogging occurs when rainfall or irrigation water collects on the soil surface ...
متن کاملEffects of Climate Change and Drought-Stress on Plant Physiology
Drought is still limited in most crops is produced. Morphological and physiological knowledge to improve drought resistance under drought conditions created problems important is the fact each of these genetic relationships and processes associated with the exact amount of important plant and grain yield is unknown. The other hand, heritability of grain yield under water is reduced. Improve the...
